This is a story the preacher at my church told last week....thought I'd share it.
There was a small 1 room school and all the kids where misbehaving....every form of bad behavior and wyld activity you can imagine was going on. So they called in this woman teacher to try and reform the kids and set some ground rules. She let the kids help set the rules, and they had like stay in from rescess for smartin off, and setin in the corner for copying work, ect. But for the more severe offenses like stealing or fighting they agreed on 10 swatts with the wooden paddle to be given by the teacher. Well none of them were prepared for the 1st. severe offense. 1 of the kids was very very skinny and weak....his parents couldn't afford to buy food and so the kid would often times go hungry....well lunch time came one day and this kid stood up and sis "my lunch is gone....someones taken it". Well when the kids had been outside playing earlier that morning this poor kid had stayed inside & being so starved he had taken this kids lunch and ate it....even knowing the consequences...because he was just so hungry he couldn't take it. Well everyone knew the punishment that had to be served...including the teacher...and she knew how poor the kids parents were and how weak and skinny the kid is. She thought to herself "I don't know if I can do this...I mean he stolt that lunch but golly what if I hurt him....I don't know if his body can take it" but she knew that if she was to restore order in the school that she'd have to give the kid the swats...otherwise her word would not be good and the kids would never pay attention to her...and dismiss what she said as merely threats she wouldn't go thru with. So with the kid bent over the desk and with the wooden paddle in her hand and tears in her eyes she raised the paddle and got ready to give the 10 swats....when from the on-looking classmates a boy stood up and said "teacher I know the punishment for what has been done....I know the rules state that the 10 swats must be given...but nowhere in the rules does it state that someone else can't take the punishment for the boy"....with that this kid walked up bent himself over the desk and sis "teacher swat me instead"........that kid that recused that frail deathly hungry weak boy from 10 swats was the very kid from whom the boy had stolen the lunch!!!!!!
This is the exact same thing that Jesus Christ done for all Christians.....we were guilty & he took our punishment....knowing that we would be unable too......amazing love & forgiveness!!!!!!!
